FNEP Drawing Submission

A new First Nations Education Policy (FNEP) is currently being developed by the Australian Government. It aims to define shared priorities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners in early childhood, schooling, and post-school pathways.

The National Indigenous Youth Education Coalition (NIYEC) will lead a national engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners to inform the new First Nations Education Policy, centring youth voice, lived experience, and aspirations across learning pathways.

To provide an opportunity for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners to have their aspirations and input heard, NIYEC is calling for drawing submissions.

  • Through this activity, students will be supported to reflect on their current experiences of school by drawing how they see themselves as learners, and who help them to learn. Students then dream up their visions for the future by drawing their dream schools, and what learning will take place in that school.

  • This activity gives students the opportunity to share their voices in a meaningful and age-appropriate way, strengthening their sense of agency as learners, and contribute to shaping education policy.

  • This drawing submission is not assessable, or linked to academic outcomes.

  • Participation is voluntary and requires parent or caregiver consent. Students may choose to not participate, and withdraw consent at any time. Students should only share what they feel comfortable with, and all submissions will be handled respectfully, with student identities protected.
