DREAM DESIGN

DREAM DESIGN

Dream Design provides space and ongoing support for young mob to design their dream education system from a position of self-determination. Through our regional workshops and national summits, we will support a growing collective of young mob with on-going capacity building opportunities and a networks to progress their education priorities.

BACKING YOUNG MOB TO DESIGN OUR FUTURE LEARNING SYSTEMS

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been historically excluded from having agency and self-determination over their learning systems. In spite of this, our mob have actively resisted exclusion by creating our own independent schools, established education consultative bodies and have routinely shown up at the school gates.

Continuing to build on this legacy requires us to be proactively in creating space for young mob to dream, imagine, create and collectively strategise towards our own self-determined learning futures.

This work builds on NIYEC’s flagship program, Education of Our Design.

Through our workshops young mob have the opportunity to connect and learn about:

  • Our Rights to Education

  • History of Indigenous Education

  • Education in Treaty and Nation-Building Processes

  • Co-designing future self-determined learning systems.

“THE PASSION UP NORTH HERE IS TO REMIND COMMUNITY THAT US YOUNG PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO TAKE OUR FUTURE IN OUR OWN HANDS”
